How to Start English From Absolute Zero

No classes, no textbook, no prior knowledge. A calm first month for true beginners.

  1. Step 1

Week 1: only the first 100 words

Ignore everything else the internet tells you to do. No grammar book, no YouTube playlist, no app subscriptions. Work through words 1-100 with flashcards, 15 words a day. These are strange little words like 'the' and 'of', so lean on the example sentences and read each one aloud. By day seven the skeleton of English sentences will already look familiar.

  2. Step 2

Week 2: add sound to everything

Keep reviewing band one and start band two. From now on, press the listen button on every card, then repeat what you hear before flipping. English spelling lies constantly; storing the real sound from day one saves you from re-learning words later. Two minutes of listen-and-repeat per session is enough.

  3. Step 3

Week 3: your first self-made sentences

You now know enough verbs and pronouns to build tiny true sentences: 'I have two brothers.' 'She works here.' Make three per day about your real life, out loud, mistakes welcome. Self-made sentences bind words to your world far better than reading ever will.

  4. Step 4

Week 4: quiz everything you've touched

Take the 10-question quiz for bands one and two until you score 9 or better on each. Quizzing is not a test of your learning; it is the learning. Then look back: one month ago these were meaningless shapes. Now around 200 of the most useful words in English are yours, and you have a routine that works. Just keep walking.
